KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS:

• Troubleshooting skills for application/system performance problems by utilizing tools like IBM iDoctor, Performance Navigator, DBMON Trace is preferred

• Hands on experience with iSeries Navigator, Turnover, SoftMenu a plus

• A good working knowledge of structured query language (SQL), Command Language (CL), RPG ILE

• Good working knowledge, understanding and experience in all phases of database administration, including: configuration, physical and logical database design, security, troubleshooting, and managing backup and recovery plans. 

• A good understanding with High Availability and Disaster Recovery strategies 

• A good understanding with replication such as Mimix, IBM InfoSphere CDC

• A good working knowledge with monitoring tools

• A good knowledge of security management and database integrity

• Ability to handle multiple projects and deadlines

• Strong interpersonal and communications skills. 

• Good technical documentation and writing skills

• Excellent presentation skills for both technical and non-technical audiences.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Create, configure and maintain all databases required for production and non-production usage. 

2. Perform code migration, database change management and data management through the various stages of the development life cycle

3. Setup alerts and monitor critical database processes and health 

4. Setup, configure, and fix failed jobs and take corrective action to issues

5. Ensure backups are setup and running successfully

6. Implement and test database backup and recovery plans to avoid/prevent data loss

7. Respond and complete service requests and incidents within SLAs

8. Perform period health check of systems and document chronic issues for follow-up and remediation when needed with level 3 support

9. Perform environment refresh or clones as needed

10. Patch management and version control of 3rd party products

11. Perform database re-organizations as required to assist performance and ensure maximum uptime of the database as well as ongoing tuning and performance monitoring.  

12. Assists with impact and root analysis.

13. Troubleshoots with problems regarding the databases, applications and development tools.

14. Ensure that storage, archiving, back-up and recovery procedures are functioning correctly

15. Work as part of a team and provide 7x24 support when required

16. Implement and maintain database security, including user provisioning where applicable

Qualifications:

18. Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or Information Technology, or equivalent Database Administration experience preferred.

19. 3-5 years minimum experience required as iSeries Database Administrator

20. Experience with database, query and system performance tuning
