First solar powered train launched in India

Indian Railways has launched its first solar Electric Multiple Unit equipped with solar panels to power fans and lighting. This remarkable project will cut carbon emissions by 9 tos per coach per year.

It will also save up to 21,000 liters of diesel for such a DEMU with 6 trailer coaches, thereby saving Rs 12 L every year. The solar rooftop system will generate 7200 KW per year.
